资源简介:
Description
of column headers:
Habitat:
it refers to a natural environment where certain animals or plants can be found. This study was conducted in two habitats:
woodlot and grassland on Keele Campus of York University in order to get some
data about insects.
Grassland: in this study, it refers to a small open area covered mostly with grasses near York Boulevard at Keele campus in York University.
Woodlot: in this study, it refers to a
small area dominated mostly with trees near York Boulevard at Keele campus in York University.
Sweep
Nets Trials: it refers to the number of sweep net
experiment that was done. This study was done in grassland and woodlot, and in
each habitat, there were 10 sweep nets
trials.
Number
of Organisms: refer to the total number of organisms
(insects in this study) that would get caught by sweep net in each trail.
RTUs:
refer to recognizable taxonomic units. Here, it simply means the number of
species in each trail.
Hypothesis
and predictions:
Hypothesis:
The number and type of insect species in grasslands are more than woodlots.
Predictions:
1)
There would be more insects caught in the sweep nets per trial in the grasslands
compared to woodlots.
2)
There would be more variety of species
caught in the sweep nets per trial in grasslands compared to woodlots.
3)
There would be more insect pollinators
in grasslands due to having more variety of plants.
Type
of Data: Habitats, the number
of organisms and RTUs are all categorical. Habitat was categorized into two
groups of grassland and woodlot. The number
of organisms and RTUs are discrete numbers as well.
Time of experiment: between
15:22 and 15:55
Date of experiment: September 27, 2016
Location of experiment:
grassland and woodlot near York Boulevard at Keele campus, York University
Weather: 20 °C
Method: The experiment took
place on Tuesday, September 27, 2016,
from approximately 15:22 to 15:55. In this study, by using a sweep net, it was
tried to find the number and type of insect species in the grassland and
woodlot near York Boulevard at Keele campus, York University. In both grassland
and woodlot, the sampler walked in a random straight line about 25 meters
moving the sweep net randomly and constantly to catch insects for each trial.
At the end of each trial, the number of organisms and number of species were recorded.
