Loudoun County 2019 General Plan Place Types

The place type approach is intended to create distinct and “complete” residential neighborhoods, employment centers, open spaces, and other areas. By providing greater flexibility in development types and uses while providing additional guidance on design expectations, place types can also facilitate more dynamic, livable neighborhoods and allow for established areas to evolve and improve. It provides a way to shape the future of Loudoun by concentrating on context – the look and feel of places, their form and their character – instead of focusing only on conventional land use categories and specific uses. The place type approach was created with the adoption of the Loudoun County 2019 Comprehensive Plan on June 20, 2019.
