The processing mechanism of the intention after effect of prospective memory: evidence from ERPs

The purpose of this study was to use ERP technology to explore the intention activation status and its temporal dynamics after PM task completion. By examining the impact of cue focality on the aftereffects of PM intention, we were able to test the theoretical views of strategic monitoring and automatic processing. The results indicate that the occurrence of PM aftereffects is supported by the strategic monitoring process, which requires attentional resources without being affected by the focality of PM cues.
