Hermatypic corals of the Philippines

An annotated checklist of the hermatypic corals of the Philippines was produced using a combination of field studies and re-evaluations of major taxonomic collections in Philippines Universities.Field work was carried out in 1986 and 1988 at five primary study sites; Bolinao, Luzon Island; Puerto Galera, Mindoro Island; El Nido (Bacuit Bay), Palawan Island; Mactan Island and Danajon Bank, off Cebu Island; and Apo Island, off Negros Island. Reference collections made as part of this study were deposited at the Bolinao Marine Station and the Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines. Additional specimens were sent to the Australian Institute of Marine Science for further study. The purpose of this study was to produce a comprehensive checklist of the hermatypic corals of the Philippines, which would provide a basis for comparisons between the hermatypic corals of the Philippines and those of other Indo-Pacific regions.

本研究结合野外调查与对菲律宾高校馆藏主要分类学标本的重新评估，编制了菲律宾造礁石珊瑚（hermatypic corals）注释名录。野外工作于1986年和1988年在5处核心研究点位开展，分别为吕宋岛博利瑙（Bolinao）、民都洛岛加莱拉港（Puerto Galera）、巴拉望岛埃尔尼多（巴奎特湾，Bacuit Bay）、宿务岛周边的麦克坦岛与达纳翁滩，以及内格罗斯岛周边的阿波岛。本研究产生的参考标本馆藏分别存放于菲律宾大学博利瑙海洋站（Bolinao Marine Station）与菲律宾大学海洋科学研究所（Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines）。另有部分标本被送交澳大利亚海洋科学研究所（Australian Institute of Marine Science）开展后续研究。本研究的核心目的为编制菲律宾造礁石珊瑚的综合性注释名录，为菲律宾与其他印度-太平洋区域的造礁石珊瑚类群开展对比研究提供参照依据。
