CHALLENGE: Algaes 2022

Collection, identification and classification of qualitative samples of marine plant biodiversity in the South, Falsa and Walker bays, including various points in each bay, collecting representative specimens of the macroalgae species present. Collection, classification and measurement of quantitative samples of squares for comparisons of marine plant biodiversity in the South, Falsa and Walker bays, collecting scrapings of differentiated intertidal macroalgal communities, 25x25cm in size, up to 3 replicates for each type of community and successional horizon in each sampled area. Collection and measurement of quantitative samples of non-native macroalgae of the species Durvillaea antartica in the South, Falsa and Walker bays, for their evaluation as potential invasive biological agents and/or vectors for potentially invasive epiphytic animal species. Collection of quantitative samples of diatoms in the South, False and Walker bays, in marine sediment, surface scrapings in benthic animals, and marine macroalgae for studies of epiphytic, epipsamic and epizootic diatomological biodiversity. Collection of genetic samples of bacterial communities from the surface of samples of the macroalga Pyropia endiviifolia in the South, Falsa and Walker bays for the study of the biodiversity of the epiphytic microbial biofilm.
