Critical phenomena in complex networks, and the emergence of dynamical abrupt transitions in the macroscopic state of the system are currently a subject of the outmost interest. We report evidence of an explosive phase synchronization in networks of chaotic units. Namely, by means of both extensive simulations of networks made up of chaotic units, and validation with an experiment of electronic circuits in a star con guration, we demonstrate the existence of a rst order transition towards synchronization of the phases of the networked units. Our ndings constitute the rst prove of this kind of synchronization in practice, thus opening the path to its use in real-world applications Data Structure We provide the times series of N=6 Rössler electronic oscillators for 5-star networks with different dynamic control parameters (compressed file with tag R_55, R_60, R_65, R_70, and R_75), the name of the carpet is related to the resistance RC in the electronic circuit (R_55 is equivalented to Rc = 55KOhmn). We recorded the times series for 202 different coupling strengths between oscillators for each network structure; the first 101 corresponds to the increase of the parameter coupling, and the least corresponds to the decreased intensity.
