Scottish Young People's Survey Cohort 1989-88, Sweep 1 (SYPS1989)

This dataset refers to the 3rd SYPS cohort of young people, who completed compulsory schooling (the S4 year stage) in the 1987-88 school year. They were first surveyed (sweep 1) in spring 1989 when most were aged about 16-17: some young people were still at school, while others had entered further education, training or jobs. The survey included questions about family background, experiences of school and subsequent destinations. 77% of the cohort responded to the survey, giving an achieved sample size of 5581. There was a second survey sweep in autumn 1991 at age 18-19.
