Four different fumigation methods were used to reduce soil microbial load at Central Crops Research Station (Clayton, NC, USA) in October 2019. Illumina sequencing of the v4 region of the 16S rRNA gene and the fungal ITS1 was used to quantify changes in the soil bacterial and fungal microbiomes, respectively, relative to an untreated control. In addition, root microbiomes were sequenced from maize seedlings 6 weeks after treatment.
