North Temperate Lakes LTER: Northern Highlands Stream Chemistry Survey 2006

We compared regional patterns in lake and stream biogeochemistry in the Northern Highlands Lake District (NHLD), Wisconsin, USA to ask how regional biogeochemistry differs as a function of the type of ecosystem considered (i.e., lakes versus streams); if lake-stream comparisons reveal regional patterns and processes that are not apparent from studies of a single ecosystem type; and if characteristics of streams and lakes scale similarly. Fifty-two streams were sampled using a stratified random design to determine regional distribution of 21 water chemistry variables during summer baseflow conditions. 本研究以美国威斯康星州北部高地湖区（Northern Highlands Lake District, NHLD）为研究区域，通过对比湖泊与溪流的生物地球化学区域分布模式，旨在解答三个科学问题：其一，区域生物地球化学特征是否因生态系统类型（湖泊与溪流）而异；其二，湖溪对比研究能否揭示单一生态系统类型研究中难以发现的区域生物地球化学模式与过程；其三，溪流与湖泊的特征是否具备相似的尺度规律。本研究采用分层随机抽样设计，于夏季基流期对52条溪流开展采样，以测定21项水体化学变量的区域分布特征。采样频率：每个点位1次；采样点位总数：52。
