Ivan GollGerman and French poet. Born in Alsace-Lorraine, he met JJ during WWI in Zurich. He became a representative of the Rhein-Verlag in Paris and proposed a French translation of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, which failed to materialize. He participated in the translation of "Anna Livie Plurabelle" (La Nouvelle revue française, 1931) and published a French translation of "Ecce Puer" in 1933 along with several articles on JJ. As a poet he was loosely affiliated with Surrealism, collaborated with his wife Claire Goll (1891-1977) and founded the magazine Surréalisme in October 1924. He spent the WWII years in New York and died in Paris. William Brockman
