FIELD NOTE Diversity in the responses from Universities to COVID-19

Abstract: The USRN is a global alliance of universities promoting civic engagement and the spread of the concept of University social Responsibility (USR). In 2019 the network started a joint MOOC: Introduction to USR, showcasing social engagement of member universities. The COVID-19 pandemic affected the production of the MOOC but it also led to the addition of a Special Session on Universities’ Response portraying members' initiatives in addressing the new challenges. By using social network analysis, these field notes look at universities in their context and their domestic and external interactions in terms of social commitment. Based on the contributions from 12 universities, the article depicts academic and non-academic engagements in the form of 1. Research, 2. Education, 3. Advisory role in policy making and advocacy, 4. Civic engagement, 5. Information management, 6. Provision of support, 7. Structural internal reforms, and 8) Extended services. Key words: COVID-19, University Social Responsibility, Universities’ response, civic engagement,strategies for disaster mitigation, social network analysis摘要：大学社会责任网络（USRN）是一个致力于推动公民参与及传播大学社会责任（University Social Responsibility，USR）理念的全球性大学联盟。2019年，该联盟推出了联合大型开放式网络课程（Massive Open Online Course，MOOC）《大学社会责任导论》，展示成员高校的社会参与实践。新冠疫情（COVID-19）不仅对该MOOC的制作产生了影响，同时还新增了一个关于高校应对举措的特别专题环节，用以呈现成员高校在应对全新挑战过程中所采取的行动。本研究田野笔记借助社会网络分析（Social Network Analysis）方法，结合语境剖析各高校的社会承诺相关的国内外互动行为。基于12所高校的投稿内容，本文从8个维度阐述了学术与非学术参与形式：1. 科研活动；2. 教育教学；3. 政策制定与宣传咨询角色；4. 公民参与；5. 信息管理；6. 支持服务供给；7. 内部结构性改革；8. 延伸服务。关键词：新冠疫情（COVID-19）、大学社会责任（USR）、高校应对举措、公民参与、减灾策略、社会网络分析
