Popup satellite archival tag (PSAT) time series of 24 Kerguelen sandpaper skates (Bathyraja irrasa) caught around Heard Island, Southern Ocean (2023)

Skates (Rajidae) represent the greatest biomass of incidental bycatch caught in the Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) longline fishery operating within Australian EEZ waters around HIMI in the Southern Ocean. Due to their life history characteristics of slow growth and late maturation, their populations are particularly vulnerable to fishing mortality which can lead to overall and localised population declines.The FRDC project 2022-012 (https://www.frdc.com.au/project/2022-012) aims to quantify post-release survival of Bathyraja spp. skates caught in the deep waters of the Kerguelen Plateau using the latest in pop-up satellite tag technology.

鳐科（Rajidae）是南大洋澳大利亚专属经济区（Exclusive Economic Zone, EEZ）赫德岛与麦克唐纳群岛（Heard Island and McDonald Islands, HIMI）周边海域巴塔哥尼亚牙鱼（Dissostichus eleginoides）延绳钓渔业中生物量最高的兼捕渔获物。由于该类群具有生长缓慢、性成熟晚的生活史特征，其种群对捕捞死亡尤为脆弱，极易引发种群整体及局地性的数量衰减。渔业研究与发展公司（Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, FRDC）的2022-012号项目（https://www.frdc.com.au/project/2022-012）旨在采用当前最先进的弹出式卫星追踪标签技术，对克尔格伦高原深水区捕获的软鳐属（Bathyraja spp.）鳐鱼的放流存活率开展量化研究。
