GeoGrid: the influence of soil development on the depth and distribution of soil microbial communities

Microbial communities are present throughout the soil profile. This study investigated the relationships between soil development, soil depth, and microbial communities through a comparison of soils spanning a soil age by climate gradient. The goal was to improve understanding of the relationships between soil characteristics and microbial communities, which provides insight into the critical role they play in cycling and the preservation of soil organic matter.
