Acinetobacter baumannii and A. pittii are important nosocomial pathogens. Due to the increasing resistance of these bacteria to a number of antimicrobial agents, including carbapenems, treatment options are limited. In animals, Acinetobacter spp. isolates with acquired carbapenem resistance are very scarce. Here we report the detection of ST93-A. pittii animal isolates that carried blaOXA-58 and other resistance genes on a 53-kb plasmid and showed genomic similarity to human isolates.
