The cup of Jamshîd, a mathnawî in imitation of Sanâ’î’s Ḥadîḳah (see Nos. 914-925 in this Cat.), by Rukn-aldîn Auḥadî Marâghî Iṣfahânî (so according to the majority of authorities, i.e. a native of Marâgha near Tabrîz and resident of Iṣfahân; comp. Butkhâna, No. 31, Bodleian Cat., col. 201; Âtashkada, No. 136, ib., col. 266; Khulâṣat-alkalâm, No. 4, ib., col. 295; Khulâṣat-alafkâr, No. 29, ib., col. 303; Makhzan-algharâ’ib, No. 32, ib., col. 317; only in the Haft Iḳlîm, No. 874, coll. 441 and 442 in this Cat., it is distinctly stated that he ought to be designated Iṣfahânî, and <em>not</em> Marâghî<em>, </em>and that view is followed in the Safînat-alauliyâ, No. 349, col. 309 in this Cat.), who died in Marâgha, A.H. 738 (A.D. 1337, 1338); comp. Khalfa ii. p. 498, No. 3856, etc. Auḥadî was a pupil of Shaikh Auḥad-aldîn Kirmânî (who died A.H. 697=A.D. 1298), with whom he is often confounded. Besides the present mathnawî, he composed a dîwân (copies of which are described in Rieu ii. p. 619^a; W. Pertsch, p. 72, etc.; see also Ḥ. Khalfa iii. p. 264) and a ده نامه (see Rieu, loc. cit., and Ḥ. Khalfa iii. p. 239). The Jâm-i-Jam was composed A.H. 733 (A.D. 1332, 1333), see here, fol. 137^b, l. 3 (in <em>one</em> copy of the British Mus. Or. 333 there appears as date A. H. 732), and divided into three daurs, viz. دور اوّل در مبداء آفرينش, on fol. 21^a; دور دوم در كيفيّت معاش جمهور; in two bâbs, (<em>a</em>) در معاش اهل دنيا, on fol. 34^b; (<em>b</em>) در معاش اهل آخرت, on fol. 79^b; دور سيوم در شرح معاد خلائق و احوال آخرت, on fol. 121^b. Beginning: قد قال (read لامرء) هو الله لامره ( read قُل) قال من له الحمد دائما متوال On fol. 8^b the praise of Sulṭân Abû Sa’îd Bahâdur-khân, the reigning sovereign (A.H. 716-736=A.D. 1316-1335), begins, and on fol. 14^a the dedication of the poem to the wazîr Khwâjah Ghiyâth-aldîn Muḥammad bin Rashîd. Dated by Mîr Najm-aldîn alḥusainî, who transcribed this excellent copy for his friend Mir Sirâj-aldîn, the 23rd of Rabî’-althânî, A.H. 1169 (A.D. 1756, Jan. 26). College of Fort William, 1825.
