A Crop Type Dataset for Consistent Land Cover Classification in Central Asia and Beyond

This dataset offers thousands of polygons on crop types collected within the Aral Sea Basin (ASB). It was collected in the scope of the project Central Asia Waters (CAWa, https://www.cawa-project.net/) and consists of the first extensive, open-source dataset of crop samples in this data scarce region. The samples were collected using GPS devices, and were later translated into field polygons with the support of high-resolution imagery. The thematic quality of the samples was validated using remote sensing and expert knowledge on crop phenology, a process supported by local experts familiar with the landscape.<br>This data was collected in support of efficient agricultural management through detailed, multi-temporal agricultural mapping. However, it can support other mapping applications. <br>
