2008年在中国北极黄河站附近的Ａ冰川和Ｐ冰川上钻孔埋设监测标杆，用于开展冰川物质平衡观测。所用设备为雪尺和密度秤。冰川物质平衡采取直接测量的方法，即在冰川表面设置固定标杆，定期观测冰川表面相对于标杆顶点的位置。发生倾斜的标杆首先测量标杆与水平面的夹角，然后计算标杆顶点距离冰川表面的垂直距离。通过此方法获得了各观测单点年净物质平衡值整个冰川的净物质平衡通过对冰川不同高度区间的面积加权获得。测量精度
