Accumulation of carbon in mangroves of Malaysia

The flux of organic material between land, ocean and atmosphere was estimated for three different aged previously logged forests. Sediment nitrogen and carbon flows are described in relation to forest production.Biomass and productivity of forests were estimated by DBH and modified light interception method. Sediment accumulation rates were estimated from gamma spectrometric measurements of soil profiles. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane, dissolved nutrient fluxes were estimated from glasss incubation chambers. Sediment, leaf and rainwater nutrient pools were estimated by auto-analyser. Sulphate reduction, nitrogen fixation and denitrification rates were estimated in mangrove soils.

针对三个不同林龄的已采伐森林，本研究估算了陆地、海洋与大气之间的有机物质通量。本研究阐述了与森林生产力相关的沉积物氮、碳通量。通过胸径（DBH）与改良光截获法，估算了森林生物量与生产力。通过土壤剖面的伽马能谱测量，得到了沉积物堆积速率。利用玻璃培养箱，估算了氧气、二氧化碳、甲烷以及溶解态营养盐通量。通过自动分析仪测定了沉积物、叶片与雨水中的营养盐库储量。在红树林土壤中，测定了硫酸盐还原、固氮与反硝化速率。本研究旨在估算红树林在热带红树林系统有机碳积累与通量中的贡献。
