Sequencing of peste des petits ruminants virus strains

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a highly pathogenic viral disease affecting mainly small ruminants. It is a major burden on economy and food security in Africa, Asia, and Middle East. Full genome sequences of PPR virus strains are still scarce, especially in Africa. Here we use different sequencing methods to obtain complete or almost complete PPRV genome sequences from field samples and isolates stored in the reference collection of the EU and OIE/FAO international reference laboratory for PPR at CIRAD, Montpellier, France. This data will increase our capacity to understand the evolution and molecular epidemiology of this important animal disease.
