Invasive human Campylobacter jejuni isolates

Isolates were collected from hospitals in the Wellington region from 2010 to 2012. The age of patients the isolates were collected from ranged from 19-89 years. Six presented with diarrhoea, others presented with headache, prosthetic hip infection and exacerbation of chronic pulmonary disease. Nine isolates were taken from blood and one from joint aspirate. Six out of ten patients were subsequently treated with ciprofloxacin, one patient died, and one had had a previous invasive infection 4 years earlier. Only one person in the study showed sepsis syndrome.
