In this study, we present the draft genome sequence of Aquimarina sp. Aq78, a bacterium isolated from the marine sponge Sarcotragus spinosulus. Assembly was performed using the CLC Genomics Workbench version 7.0.4, resulting in 170 contigs and predicted genome size of 6.0 Mb. Aquimarina sp. Aq78 shares 98.98% 16S rRNA gene homology with type strain A. macrocephali JAMB N27, isolated from marine sediment. This genome sequence provides novel insights into the secondary metabolism of cultivatable bacteria in the Bacteroidetes phylum.
