Mitochondrial genome sequences of Prochilodus reticulatus for taxonomic resolution within the Prochilodus genus

This project includes complete mitochondrial genome sequences of Prochilodus reticulatus collected from the Orinoco River basin. The data were generated to investigate the taxonomic ambiguity between P. reticulatus and the closely related P. magdalenae, and to evaluate the effectiveness of commonly used mitochondrial markers for species-level discrimination within the genus Prochilodus. The results support phylogenomic analyses and molecular taxonomy in South American freshwater fishes.
