The mussels Bathymodiolus spp. have been proposed as a model to study both adaptation to the special environmental conditions of deep-sea chemoautosynthesis-based ecosystems and population connectivity among each other. However, only a few genomic resources are available to facilitate such research at the molecular level. This study explored how high-throughput sequencing can be used to rapidly produce genomic resources, and how 2b-RAD (type IIB endonuclease restriction-site-associated DNA) can be applied in genome-wide discovery of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for deep-sea mussels B. platifrons, and cross-species or cross-genus detection of single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in other three bathymodioline mussels (B. japonicus, B. adudoides, and Idas sp.).
