The goal of the experiment was to assess the tempo and mode of antibiotic resistance evolution of different species of microbes as they were grown in spent media of other microbes.The antibiotic resistsance evolution of Klebsiella pneumoniae (trimethoprim:sulfamethoxazole), Enterococcus faecium (Vancomycin) and Escherichia coli (trimethoprim:sulfamethoxazole) quantified in spent media of these and two other microbes, Staphylococcus haemolyticus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We assessed genetic variation at the end of the evolutionary experiment and compared this with their ancestors' genomes Illumina paired end whole genome sequencing of three replicate evolutionary lines and for each line three clones were sequenced.
