Parkes observations for project P855 semester 2014OCTS_04

We propose to search for cosmological fast radio transients and intermittent pulsars during windstows and maintenance. Fast radio transients are millisecond bursts of radio emission coming from cosmological distances, of which five are currently known. New discoveries made in our searches will enable better characterisation of this unexpected population of objects. We will also search for intermittent pulsars, which have duty cycles of 0.1 to 0.2 and time scales of weeks to months that were likely missed in previous surveys.

本研究拟在观测窗口期与设备维护期间，搜寻宇宙学尺度的快速射电暂现源（Fast Radio Transients）与间歇脉冲星。快速射电暂现源是源自宇宙学距离的毫秒级射电爆发辐射，目前已知仅存5例。本次搜寻获得的新发现，将助力我们更精准地表征这一此前未被充分认知的天体种群。此外，我们还将搜寻占空比介于0.1至0.2之间、时标为数周至数月的间歇脉冲星——这类天体极有可能在以往的巡天观测中被遗漏。
