The data comprises eye-tracking measures and comprehension quiz results from novice learners exposed to different audio and subtitle conditions. The 2x3 within-subjects design includes three audio conditions (native English audio, foreign Spanish or Arabic audio, and no audio) and two subtitle languages (Spanish and Arabic). Global eye-tracking analyses reveal overall subtitle reading patterns, while local analyses focus on the processing of specific linguistic units. Comprehension quizzes assess learning outcomes after viewing the subtitled videos. The data shows that the absence of audio leads to increased fixation durations, indicating greater attentional demand. Spanish subtitles result in higher fixation counts and prolonged reading times compared to Arabic, reflecting deeper cognitive processing.
