Summary Jungerberg and Hackelsberg are two hills situated in the north-west of the Lake Neusiedl area. As well as the close by Leithagebirge and the Ruster Hu & 776;gelland both hills are considered as the most eastern foothills of the Alps. For a long time, the range has bin a famous research destination for botanists. The Hackelsberg is also famous for its large butterfly population. 1080 Different kinds of Butterflies have their habitat on this small hill. In former times specious-rich dry grassland covered almost the whole surface of both hills. Due to the expansion of viniculture, a lot of these precious habitats have already gone lost. With the end of grazing management these spaces of dry grassland are threatened by becoming overgrown by bushes and trees. The Expansion of the Settlement Area also Endangers Precious Habitats on both Hills.
