The CBS area layouts file shows the area layouts used by CBS. The polygons of these classifications are usually cartographically simplified. This is the case if the layer name is “generalised”. Only the municipality, district and neighbourhood also appear as non-generalised for more recent years. The classifications are given from 1 995 to the most recent year. The most recent year contains provisional boundaries for municipality, province, COROP and part of the country in the first half of that year, but no other upper-municipal divisions and no neighbourhoods and neighbourhoods for that year. In the mid-year update, the provisional borders are replaced by definitive borders and the districts, neighbourhoods and various super-municipal divisions of that year are added.
