Whole Genome Sequencing Reveals Evolution of Daptomycin Resistance in Staphylococcus argenteus from a Patient with Recurrent Bacteremia and Chronic Daptomycin Exposure

Staphylococcus argenteus is a novel staphylococcal species associated with invasive disease. We report the first case of daptomycin-resistant Staphylococcus argenteus evolution due to repeated courses of daptomycin in a patient with recurrent bacteremia. Whole genome sequencing of longitudinally collected isolates revealed a mprF S337L mutation as the mechanism of resistance.
