Streptomyces Genome sequencing and assembly. Streptomyces

Streptomyces isolates were collected from the rhizosphere of maize in North West Province, South Africa. These cultures were then tested for cellulolytic activity on a range of cellulose substrates. Novel enzymes targeting lignocellulose, often used in the production of biofuels, are of considerable industrial interest. As certain Streptomyces strains have already shown the ability to degrade lignocellulose, targeting this genera is a promising area of study.
