Microstructures induced by martensitic transformations in Fe and Ti under extreme conditions

We plan to characterize the microstructures induced by archetypical martensitic transformations under extreme conditions, in Fe and Ti. For that purpose, X-ray diffraction collected in diamond anvil cells under high pressure and temperature and subsequent single/polycristal analysis will be carried out. This aims at an understanding of the mesoscale mechanisms of these transformations, as well as a better control of microstructures of high pressure phases and materials, for fundamental and technological applications.
