Temperature profiles from mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) casts from the USS HUMMINGBIRD in the North Atlantic Ocean in support of the Fleet Observations of Oceanographic Data (FLOOD) project from 31 August 1966 to 04 September 1966 (NODC Accession 6600182)

MBT data were collected from the USS HUMMINGBIRD in support of the Fleet Observations of Oceanographic Data (FLOOD) project. Data were collected by US Navy; Ships of Opportunity from 31 August 1966 to 04 September 1966. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html.

The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

UBT文件格式适用于通过机械温深仪采集得到的温度-深度剖面数据。MBT观测的最大探测深度约为285米，因此其数据仅可用于研究海洋上层的热结构特征。每条观测记录均包含航次信息、观测日期、观测位置与观测时间。数据记录由多组温度-深度值对组成，本文件中的温度数据以5米的均匀深度间隔进行记录。
