Profiling the gut microbiota of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder with unknown etiology and no effective treatment, characterized by large phenotypic variabilityheterogeneity, with respect to thevariable site and age of symptom onset and rate of disease progression. Considerable studies support the role of the microbiota-immunity axis in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative dis-eases. In the present study, we compared the inflammatory and microbiota profile of ALS patients with different clinical characteristics with healthy family caregivers.
