Technical description: The EC Flood Risk Management Directive aims to reduce risks from floods. The first of three prescribed steps to this objective is the assessment of flood risks. As a result, the risk areas for inland floods and storm surges are published here. The second step is the identification and presentation of hazard and risk maps in the risk areas. The hazard and risk maps cover three flood events each. For inland floods, the frequent event is (marking: H for High) a 10-yearly average event (marking: M for Middle) a 100-year and the rare event (marking: L for Low) a 200-yearly. For the areas endangered by storm surges, the frequent event is a 20-yearly event, the median event, like inland floods, a 100-yearly and the rare event an extreme event in which a rare, extremely high water level (7.30 mNN at St. Pauli level) is assumed and additionally disregarded the effect of flood protection systems. The hazard maps represent the extent of the flood events in the form of expansion and water depths. The risk maps show how the affected areas are used, the location of industrial assets and protected goods, as well as the number of potentially affected inhabitants. In the final step, a flood risk management plan must be drawn up. Legal background: The Flood Risk Management Directive (2007/60/EC of 23.10.2007) regulates the development and publication of flood risk maps. The legal transposition of this EC Directive into national law took place with the amendment of the WHG of 1 March 2010. The data for flood risk management (HWRM) maps of the 1st reporting cycle (2013-2019) are provided here as a WMS presentation service and as a WFS download service.
