The skin surface of volunteers was sampled at several timepoints before and after treating the skin with benzalkonium chloride in order to disrupt the skin microbiome and monitor the microbiome's recovery over time. Half of each sample was treated with PMA in order to eliminate DNA from dead bacteria and to only analyze DNA from live bacteria.
