This dataset summarized a study investigating the disposition of PCB52 and its metabolites in male and female rats following nose-only inhalation exposure to PCB52. Briefly, male and female Sprague-Dawley rats (50-58 days of age, 210 ± 27 g; n=6) were exposed for 4 h to PCB52 using a nose-only inhalation exposure system. Sham animals (n=6) were exposed to filtered lab air. Serum was collected immediately after removal of the animals from the nose-only apparatus by cardiac puncture under isoflurane anesthesia. Rats were perfused with saline, and organs were excised, weighed, and stored at -80°C. Based on gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) analysis, animals were exposed to 14 or 23 µg/kg body weight of PCB52. Levels of PCB52 and its hydroxylated metabolites, including 2,2',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl-4-ol (4-OH-PCB52), were measured in tissues using GC-MS/MS. In addition, liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) analysis was used to identify PCB52 metabolites, including sulfated, methoxylated, and dechlorinated PCB52 metabolites, in tissues.
