资源简介:
This study is part of an ongoing series of studies on the quality of life in Townsville, Queensland (see SSDA Studies No. 45, 46, 47 and 105). It explores attitudes towards gambling in general, with the particular intention of collecting baseline data before the opening of the Breakwater Casino, in order to examine the likely effect of the casino in years to come. Emphasis is placed on topics such as the perceived consequences of the casino on the economy and general quality of life in Townsville, general behavioural orientations towards gambling personally, and risk taking (measured by a scale of nine items), personal experience of gambling situations, confidence in Australian institutions, alcohol consumption and distribution of gambling taxes. Background variables include respondent's level of education and that of spouse and parents, occupation and employment status, income, country of birth of respondent and parents, home ownership, marital status, age and sex.
