This dataset contains grid definition files and external parameter files used for high-resolution atmospheric simulations with ICON in limited area mode (LAM). The files define a set of nested ICON model domains covering the region of Hintereisferner and surrounding terrain. The dataset provides the model configuration used in glacier–atmosphere interaction experiments investigating the influence of changing glacier extent on local atmospheric dynamics. Model domains The dataset includes grid definition files for four nested ICON domains with horizontal resolutions of: 1644 m 811 m 103 m 51 m These domains were used for high-resolution atmospheric simulations and large-eddy simulations of glacier boundary-layer processes. For each domain, the dataset provides: ICON grid definition files corresponding external parameter files External parameter modifications The external parameter files were modified to represent different glacier surface scenarios. Modifications include: glacier outlines: ICE, LU_CLASS_FRACTION surface albedo: ALB, ALNID, ALUVD The baseline glacier geometry is derived from the Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI) version 6.0 (https://doi.org/10.7265/N5-RGI-60). To investigate the impact of glacier retreat on atmospheric processes, multiple glacier scenarios were generated. Th glacier outlines were substituted with updated geometries from Open Global Glacier Model (OGGM; Maussion et al. (2019)) simulations for the entire Alps. OGGM simulations were performed under the SSP370 scenario, employing bias-corrected CMIP6 climate input from the ISIMIP3b framework (model MPI-ESM1-2-HR). Experiments: RGI glacier outlines (RGI baseline) Projected glacier extent for: 2030 2040 2050 2075 2100 Ice-free scenario with complete glacier removal These scenarios allow controlled experiments assessing how changing glacier and surface properties influence local atmospheric circulation and boundary-layer processes. Data structure For each domain and glacier scenario the dataset provides: ICON grid definition file corresponding modified external parameter file The external parameter files contain the modified fields representing glacier geometry and surface characteristics used in the numerical experiments. Purpose This dataset provides the model configuration required to reproduce the ICON simulations used in glacier evolution experiments, enabling: reproducibility of the numerical experiments sensitivity studies of glacier–atmosphere interactions further modelling experiments using consistent domain configurations
