Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER)/VCR010: Small Mammal Population and Community Ecology

LTER/VCR010: Live-trapping transects were established along four of the five permanent transects (1, 2, 4, and 5) on Hog Island. Traps are located every 12.5 m along the transect and alternately offset from the center of the transect (to minimize the effects of the path) by 4 m. This yields an inter-trap distance of 15 m. One Sherman live trap is placed at each station and baited with peanut butter. Species trapped are Mus musculus (house mouse), Oryzomys palustris (rice rat), and Rattus norvegicus (Norway rat).
