Temperature profiles from MBT casts from the ANDROSCOGGIN from Ocean Weather Station E (OWS-E) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 09 October 1965 to 05 November 1965 (NODC Accession 6500742)

Bathythermograph data were collected from the ANDROSCOGGIN within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station E (3500N 04800W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 09 October 1965 to 05 November 1965. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html.

The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

UBT文件格式适用于通过机械式温深计（Mechanical Bathythermograph, MBT）获取的温度-深度剖面数据。机械式温深计观测的最大深度约为285米，因此此类数据仅可用于研究海洋上层的热结构特征。每条观测记录均包含航次信息、观测日期、位置与时间。数据记录由若干组温度-深度值对组成，该文件中的温度数据以5米为等间距深度间隔进行记录。
