This study's qualitative data was gathered through semi-structured in-depth interviews, which consisted of two main sections. The first section aimed to collect demographic information about the participants, such as their experience, position, and the duration of the voyage during which the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, as well as information about the vessels they served on (e.g., deadweight tonnage, vessel type, route). The second section focused on the participants' observations concerning the research questions, which were articulated as follows: To what extent did the crew change and repatriation issue impact your well-being and work performance? How did you and other crew members manage the situation? To what extent did the incident affect your job loyalty? Upon obtaining research ethics approval from the university, potential participants were identified through our professional networks. We initially reached out to human resources professionals at major shipping companies in Ho Chi Minh and Hai Phong City, presenting our project to them. These contacts then identified seafarers within their company's roster who met our criteria and introduced us to them. In total, we contacted 29 seafarers, explained our research objectives, and invited them to participate in interviews; 20 accepted the invitation. All interviews were conducted in-person in April and May 2022, each lasting approximately one hour. By the 14th interview, we observed recurring themes, indicating that the data had reached saturation. As suggested by Francis et al. (2010), we concluded data collection after the 20th interview. The interviews were reviewed by a research panel, transcribed, and translated into English, following the guidelines set by Douglas and Craig (2007).
