Healer Buddha at the British Museum, London

The Buddha sits in the position of meditation, holding a myrobalan in his hand. This fruit has medicinal properties and identifies the Buddha as a healer. The size of the figure testifies to the great skill of the Burmese lacquer craftsmen. It is larger than life and is make out of dry lacquer, gilding paint, shell-inlay and wood Burma. Made in the late 18th or earth 19th Century. This object is part of Scan The World.
