(WFS) – Kegel seals: Sightings at moorings in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea from 2005 (LKN.SH – NPV)

Download Geoservice for the occurrence of cone seals at moorings in the area of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. The berths of the cone seals are generally only located on the outer seas in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea. For this reason, unlike seal surveys, the cone seal flights are not nationwide, but only cover areas where there are basically cone seal places. The independent detection for cone seals will be carried out from 2005 in the seasons relevant for cone seals: As a rule, three entries are carried out per year during the litter period (November – January) and two entries are carried out during the hair change period (March – April). Sightings outside this period are not made available in this dataset. This service provides the following information: Number of cone seals per berth per flight, proportion of young animals. The following layers/tables are included: 1. Total table with all monitoring flights from 2005 onwards 2. Tables split by individual years (from 2015 onwards). The data of all five collections are provided per year layer. 3. Total table with the proportions of the juveniles (only data from the three flights from the litter period) During the cone seal monitoring, a precise coordinate is assigned to all counted individual animals or groups, which is defined as berth. When possible, a distinction is made between adult and juvenile animals. For inventory calculations, the data can be filtered by individual collection flights. Column ‘Robben Year’: The throwing time of the Kegel seals takes place at the turn of the year between November and January of the following year. In order to simplify the processing and filtering of the data, the column “Robben Year” was inserted, which for cone seals the months November and December is assigned to the following year, so that the litter time is not split in a selection of the recording year.
