As part of the Beaufort Gyre Exploration Project (https://www.whoi.edu/website/beaufortgyre/), the Canada Basin has been surveyed since 2003 because of its major role in circulation and freshwater storage in the world oceans. Due to climate change, it has also been subject to major changes in ice extent and freshwater balance. Our surveys of microbial communities in this system from 2012-2019 are intended to characterize the biological response to these changes and their potential consequences in carbon cycling. Stations corresponded to the ones used by the long term time series of ocean circulation, and are arranged into transects from nearshore to offshore.
