Government agencies and Traditional Owners share a responsibility to manage Australia’s Sea Country and marine assets according to both statutory law and customary Lore. In recognition of this shared responsibility, the linked report below summarises preliminary surveys of the fish fauna of Brue Reef, which in Mayala language is Moonjaniid jina baaliboor. These surveys were conducted with Traditional Owners, scientists, and marine park managers. The report also provides insights into cultural information shared during the voyage to Moonjaniid jina baaliboor on the vessels RV Solander and Karma IV on the 11-13th October 2022 in which 12 Mayala and Bardi Jawi Traditional Owners participated and includes a series of summary recommendations from a subsequent workshop at Ardyaloon on the 18th of April 2023.
