Seasonality of freshwater bacterioplankton diversity in two tropical shallow lakes from the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest

In this study, we investigated seasonal changes in the bacterioplankton communities of two tropical lakes, which differ in trophic status and mixing regime, using next generation sequencing (NGS) of 16S rDNA. Our findings showed highly diverse and dynamic bacterioplankton communities both seasonally and with depths.Differences in bacterioplankton community richness and structure appeared to be strongly related to physical and chemical characteristics of the water column, especially phosphate, pH and oxygen.
