资源简介:
The dataset collects student notebooks from the 16th and 17th centuries, specifically those created during international studies identified during archival missions conducted between 2020-2026 by ERC KnowStudents team members. The data collected are in line with the understanding of the notebook–that has been developed within the project–as an individual repository of knowledge. Rather than seeking to stabilise the term 'notebook', the project aims to map its fluid historical reality. This structure ensures thorough documentation for historical analysis while maintaining a consistent approach in data representation.Nevertheless, the sine qua non characteristics of the collected materials included: handwrittem notes bound into a separate notebook, belonging to students from Eastern and Central Europe and written during their studies abroad. These notes illustrate scientific and/or cultural exchange at an international level. Within this scope, we excluded numerous notebooks, e.g. those written by Hungarian students at Hungarian universities or by Polish students at Lithuanian colleges and universities. Students of all levels of education were included, from beginners to doctoral candidates.Disclaimer of specific columns:'Disciplines' reflects the early modern perspective, with the liberal arts at its core alongside other disciplines that were taught at that time. 'Type' includes 'lecture notes' (which reflect the professor's intentions and are taken in the classroom, also known as 'dictata') and 'after-class notes', i.e. notebooks involving the second step in the organisation of knowledge: rewriting, adding personal notes, organising into loci communes, excerpts, miscellanea (adversaria), exercises, or other forms of copybooks (kopiariusz). 'Nationality' refers to the nationality of the student.'Possessor(s)' lists all possessors in chronological order.'Languages' refers to languages present in the notebook other than Latin.Legend:HEI – higher education institutionsX – applicable[empty bracket] – not applicable? – lack of data / uncertainty.
