Oceanographic station data from bottle casts from the WINNEBAGO from Ocean Weather Station N (OWS-N) in the North Pacific Ocean 22 March 1971 to 16 April 1971 (NODC Accession 7101190)

Oceanographic station data were collected from the WINNEBAGO within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station N (3000N 14000W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 22 March 1971 to 16 April 1971. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Station Data II Output Format (SD2). The SD2 format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

SD2格式包含离散深度层记录的物理化学海洋学数据。多数观测采用多瓶式南森采水（multi-bottle Nansen casts）或其他类型的水体采样器完成，其中约5%的少量数据通过电子电导率-温度-深度（conductivity-temperature-depth, CTD）或盐度-温度-深度（salinity-temperature-depth, STD）记录仪获取。不过CTD/STD数据是以与南森采水数据一致的深度层级上报至NODC，并已按照与南森采水数据相同的流程进行处理与存储。每个测站均附带航行相关信息（如船舶、所属国家、研究机构）、站位坐标、观测日期与时间等记录。核心观测参数以温度与盐度为主，但也可能上报溶解氧、磷酸盐、总磷、硅酸盐、硝酸盐、亚硝酸盐及pH值等指标。采水作业时的气象条件（例如气温、气压、风向风速、海浪情况）也可能被记录，同时还包含辅助观测数据，如水体颜色（福勒-于勒色标，Forel-Ule scale）、水体透明度（赛克盘深度，Secchi disk depth）以及海底水深。密度（sigma-t）、声速以及动态深度异常等指标则通过实测参数计算得到。每个测站既包含实测深度层的观测数据，也包含经插值得到的标准深度层数据集。
