Site LA 54147 is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, along New Mexico Highway
258 near the intersection with Idalia Road. Situated near the northeastern end of the West
Mesa, it is believed to be the site of Coronado's camp, occupied between 1540 and 1542. A
single pithouse feature (2004-1) and associated ceramic artifacts were identified at the site.
One pollen and one phytolith sample were collected from the pithouse. Pollen and phytolith
analyses are used to provide information concerning past environments and plant resources
available to the occupants of site LA 54147.
