Dresden looks back on a centuries-old market tradition. It is proven that the oldest Christmas market in Germany takes place on the Dresden Altmarkt: Since 1434 and thus for more than half a millennium. On the old and the new market as well as on other squares, "market" was held regularly with all kinds of fresh produce. This tradition was not interrupted until the end of the 19th century after the construction of three large market halls. On behalf of the city, ten weekly markets are organized today. Other markets of all kinds, including large flea markets, are operated privately.德累斯顿拥有绵延数百年的市集传统。据史料考证，德国最古老的圣诞市集便坐落于德累斯顿老市集广场（Dresden Altmarkt），其运营历史可追溯至1434年，至今已有五百余载。此前，在老市集、新市集及其他多处广场，各类新鲜物产市集均定期举办，这一传统直至19世纪末三座大型市集大厅建成后方才中断。 如今，受德累斯顿市政府委托，当地共运营十处每周定期市集；其余各类市集（含大型跳蚤市场）均由私人经营。
